PTO Minutes for February 15, 2018

In attendance were Mr. Sylvia, President Kenda Coulter, VP Sarah Wood, Treasurer Anthony Greenwood, Secretary of Communications Trina Ruggiero, Citywide Rep. Dave Blaton, and assembled parents.

Kenda: Big thanks to Wendy Francis for organizing Pennies for Patients. We have surpassed the amount of money we raised last year.

Mr. Sylvia: Brand new Chrome Book cart with 18 Chrome Books on it is now at the school with 15 more being ordered. This will allow a whole grade to be able to test on computers in one day. Grade 4 will do a practice MCAS online. Next year, grades 3-5 will be testing online too. Mrs. Corwin says thank you to PTO for helping to get everything they needed for the kindergarten 100th day. Great Dragon parade for Chinese New Year. A few student council members are being sent to the leadership summit on 3/8. Parent conferences will be 4/3 during the day and night and 4/10 during the day. 4/10 is also Math & Science night followed by a PTO meeting. Grade specific letters for MCAS testing dates will be sent home. Just to give you an idea…week of 4/9: ELA, week of 5/14: math, week of 5/21: grade 5 science. Read across America will begin when we return from Feb break. The Squantum School Players show will be in the evening on 3/8. They will also perform at 9am on 3/9 for anyone who cannot make the evening performance.

Dave’s Citywide Report: Other schools were talking about how they run their book fairs. They also discussed if photos from picture day can be looked at online before ordering instead of ordering pics you aren’t happy with without seeing them. Citywide is also working on getting rid of the Yakoo symbol for NQ High.

Sarah: Disney Raffle: talked about how many tickets to start each kid off with…possibly 15 this time. This will start after St.Patrick’s Day and run until around April 6. Still deciding on prizes for top sellers, etc.

Anthony: Accounts pretty much stand where they did at our last meeting. Amazon money from affiliate marketing has started being deposited.

The rest of the meeting consisted of an excellent presentation from a representative from Boston vs Bullies. He talked about and showed a Power Point slide show on how to recognize and handle if your child is being bullied.
