PTO Meeting Notes
September 11, 2012

We began with introductions from all attendees
Mr. Sylvia started with his principal’s report:
Wireless throughout the school
6 new MOBI devices are on the way
White boards/Infocus projectors are in almost all of the classrooms
Dr. Bloom gave a presentation regarding “Where does the Money Go?”. The slide show highlighted many of the events, activities and items funded via the PTO. Great job!
Treasurer’s report: brief overview via the power point pie charts. We are starting the year with a very low balance, funds were withdrawn for the new lockers for the 3rd grade.
Open House: 9/18 6 – 8:30
Teachers will be available
Raffles (thank you Katie and parents who donated items)
Stop & Shop card registration
PTO dues drop off: big push for dues (increased minimum suggestion, option to select larger donation amount on the form)
Flyers will be sent home, as well as updates on the Facebook page
Textile recycle project: Squantum School received a check for $623.00. Second highest in the city. The company will continue to pick up the textiles as long as we continue to collect
Certificates will be presented to the children how participated in the Summer Math & Reading Programs. Rep. Bruce Ayers will be presenting a bike to a lucky Reading participant.
Possible partnership with Reebok for a before school fitness program
Reminder: CORI forms are needed for all volunteers (field trips, etc). Hoping to have the form linked to the website so that parents may download and bring in to the school
Jen Bergin will lead the Reading Counts program
The school will be piloting a new Literacy Program and Go Math Program
Book borrowing volunteers are being scheduled (sign up at the Open House) with Chris Hollatz
There will be a bake sale on Nov 6th (election day), even though the children do not have school
Mrs. Burke will coordinate the volunteer database
Sign ups for Class room reps will take place at the Open House
Halloween Monster Mash will be held on 10/19. Andrea Coughlin will run, volunteers will be needed
Other activities/fundraisers:
iTown Stores (Paula Glynn will look into this)
Movie Nights
Squantum History Walk
Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Walk-a-thon
Allow people to pay chaperone/child’s full cost on field trips
